Q. Where is the Heavy Equipment Training Academy located?
A. We currently have three locations in Washington DC. 1629 K Street Northwest (administrative offices),1231 Good Hope Road Southeast (classrooms), 631 Howard Road Southeast (office/training area). The K Street location is conveniently located within 1 block of Farragat North Metro station. The Good Hope Road and Howard Road location is conviently located within 4 blocks of the Anacostia Metro station.
Q. What courses do you offer?
A. We offer two heavy equipment operating courses (Basic and Advanced), a mobile crane/boom truck operating course and a Class A & Class B Commercial Drivers License course.
Q. How long are these courses and what is the tuition for each?
A. The Basic Course is six weeks long and costs $4,500.00
The Advanced Course is ten weeks long and costs $7,500.00
The Mobile Crane/Boom Truck Course is eight weeks long and costs $6,000.00
The CDL Class A Course is six weeks long and costs $3,000.00
The CDL Class B Course is four weeks long and costs $1,500.00
The Heavy Equipment Training & Construction Truck Driver Training Course is twelve weeks and cost $7,500.00
Q. What are the normal school hours?
A. Monday-Friday 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Q. What are the differences between the six week basic course and the ten week advanced course?
A. The five week course will give you a basic knowledge of the equipment, operation of the equipment, equipment safety and some of the math calculations for excavations. The ten week course is a four week continuation of the six week Basic Course. Here you will receive advanced training on what you have learned and go in depth on all phases of operation of heavy equipment.
Q. Should I take the Basic or Advanced Course?
A. If you have previously operated heavy equipment and want to touch up your skills and want to get certified you may want to take the basic course. If you are new to the industry and want to get certified you should take the Advanced Course.
Q. Why should I take the CDL course?
A. A CDL is not necessary to operate heavy equipment, however, you may need to take the equipment from one site to another on a truck and a CDL license is required to drive on public roads. You will be very attractive to employers with the CDL than without it. And many contractors require a CDL for employment.
Q. How often do classes start?
A. New classes start the first monday of each month.
Q. Do I need a valid drivers license?
A. No, You do not need a valid drivers license for operating heavy equipment.
Yes, You do need a valid drivers license for the Mobile Crane/Boom Truck training and CDL training.
Q. What previous education do I need to enroll?
A. Although a High School diploma or GED is preferred it is not a requirement.
Q. Do you have financial aid?
A. No, we are not a title IV school.
Q. Are there student loans or grants available?
A. Yes, Many national banks offer career educational loans. Partners Financial Services, Inc. and Sallie Mae Financial Corporation are other funding sources. Also, students may qualify for tuition assistance through: Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Displaced Workers, Veterans benefits (VA), Vocational Rehabilitation, Workers Compensation. Inquire at your local Workforce Services Office or Your local Veterans Office.
Q. What type of equipment do you have training on?
A. We train you on five pieces of equipment. Excavator, Backhoe, Loader, Skid Steer, Dump Truck.
Q. Do you have job placement?
A. Yes, The Placement Coordinator maintains a job list of positions currently available in the region and industry. We also will operate a web site available exclusively for the use of our graduated students and participating employers.

This school has submitted an Application for Initial EDUCATIONAL LICENSE to the D.C. Education Licensure Commission. Educational License by the D.C. Education Licensure Commission is currently under review (pending).
Classes will not commense until the Education License has been granted and issued to HETA.3
